Hot-Weather Tips
Have fresh, clean water available at all times.- Provide shelter from the sun. Keep in mind that shaded areas will change throughout the day.
- Make sure that there is good airflow around your pets. Do not put them into an enclosed shelter during hot weather.
- Never leave pets in vehicles during hot weather. Pets can overheat quickly, which could lead to heat-related health problems.
- Exercise pets during cooler parts of the day. If you walk or exercise with your animals, please consider doing so in early morning or after dusk.
- Keep pets away from coolants and lawn chemicals. Coolants and chemicals can sicken or kill your pets.
- Keep your pets well groomed. If you have a longhaired dog, help it beat the heat with a haircut. Brush your pets, to keep them tangle free and help improve airflow to the skin.
- Keep an eye out for heat-related health problems. If your pet is excessively panting, lethargic, exhibiting behavior changes or showing signs of stress, contact your veterinarian immediately.
