World Spay Day
Did you know the Humane Society of Greater Dayton works with several local veterinary offices through the Miami Valley Veterinary Medicine Association (MVVMA) voucher program?
In honor of World Spay Day, for a one-day-only event, our participating veterinary offices are lifting the income level restrictions and have graciously agreed to offer spay/neuter surgeries to everyone participating in the program at the discounted rates.
To register, you must pre-pay to purchase your voucher at the Humane Society of Greater Dayton during regular business hours only on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, from 1 to 6 p.m.
This low-cost voucher program is designed to assist people who are financially unable to use the preferred services of a local veterinarian for uncomplicated (routine) spay and neuter services. Any form of government or financial aid is acceptable as proof of need.
This program is made possible by the participating local veterinarians who are providing their surgical skills and subsidizing your pet’s surgery (at the veterinarian’s expense) to assist the HSGD in their efforts to control pet population issues in our community.
The spay/neuter voucher fee includes a physical exam, the anesthesia, surgical procedure, recovery, 3 days of post-operative pain medication, and a follow-up visit for suture removal. The fee is due at the time of services- NO payment arrangements will be made. The fee is non-refundable unless your pet is deemed unacceptable for anesthesia by a participating veterinarian- the $15 examination fee is non-refundable without exception. Not included in the fee is treatment for fleas or other parasites (if fleas or evidence is found on your pet), optional monitoring (pulse oximetry, blood pressure), pre-surgical bloodwork, fluid therapy, overnight hospital stay, or fees for heat/pregnancy/pyometra/hernia repair/retained testicles or conditions that are not evident on examination.
The only additional fee may be if one of the vet clinics requires certain vaccinations for your pet prior to surgery. Please contact each vet clinic beforehand to see what requirements they have. All vet clinics vary.
During the pre-surgical exam, findings that may result in additional charges to you will be discussed. With all surgery and general anesthesia are associated risks including the possibility of death. Treatment associated with complications during and/or following surgery will be your financial responsibility.
It is important to note that this spay/neuter procedure is not the only preventive care needed to provide for your pet’s health and well-being. The doctor will discuss with you the need for annual vaccines, heartworm and intestinal parasite screening, flea prevention/treatment, and heartworm prevention in addition to any physical exam findings that may impact your pet’s health or surgical outcome. Vaccinations are strongly recommended and may be required by participating veterinarians at additional cost. You are responsible for all additional treatment costs deemed necessary by the veterinarian. When scheduling your appointment, please ask what is required by the veterinarian.
